Morning sessions
Session 1: Salt museums and local development
The role of salt museums in the socio-economic and cultural development of the local community. Do salt museums give a salt-identity to the communities they are in? Or are they a product of this identity?
Session 2: Threats and challenges of salt museums
How to attract visitors and how to survive with limited financing. How to compete with other leisure attractions, how to offer newer, interesting experiences to the public?
Afternoon programme: Visit to the Danish Salt Museum & the Akzo Nobel facilities (to be confirmed)
Saturday 13 Sept. at Mariager/Læsø
Morning sessions
Session 3: Public awareness of salt heritage and history
How salt heritage is being explained to the general public and to the schools
Session 4: Saltscapes as a blend of natural and cultural features
Salt making has an imprint on the landscape, whether it is solar evaporation, mining or other, but normally the resulting saltscape is not seen as a whole. Some mining heritage recovery projects may serve as an example.

Morning sessions
Session 5: Research on salt heritage in support of heritage valuation.
How does scientific research support the protection and recovery of salt heritage. Are there scientific research programmes devoted to the recovery of salt heritage?
Session 6: The roles of policy and stakeholders in the protection of salt heritage
How do public policies, planning measures, public administrations, NGOs, owners, scientists, etc. influence in the protection of salt-related heritage. Is the protection of salt heritage a must in order to be preserved, or are there alternatives to preserve this heritage without being officially protected?

Monday 15 Sept. at Læsø
Morning sessions
Session 7: Is salt production compatible with salt heritage preservation and tourism. Can industrial salt production or the production of other salt subproducts be compatible with heritage preservation, tourism and public awareness?
Session 8: Marketing of gourmet salts and other salt-based products
There are many types of salt and salt subproducts (cosmetics, algae, bio-tech products, etc.). How are they produced? Does the production respect heritage? What markets do they have? Also: the role of quality labels and protected geographic origin labels

Tuesday 16 Sept. at Læsø
Morning sessions
Session 9: Salt tourism and local development of salt making areas
Does salt tourism contribute to the socioeconomic development of the area (employment, profits)? What are the difficulties of developing a salt-based tourism strategy in salt making areas?
Session 10: The future of the salt heritage
Future prospects of salt tourism, salt heritage research and production of salt-based products. What next?
